BITE-SIZED: Hausu (Nobuhiko Obayashi, 1977)

A group of schoolgirls go on a trip to a country house and find themselves besieged by a supernatural entity.

I was looking forward to watching Hausu.

I had seen the trailer and various clips over the years.

It is a fascinating movie.

It looks incredible - the visuals are genuinely inspired: That bit where one of the girls is holding her friend’s living head is jaw-dropping.

Maybe I should not have gone to a late evening screening. I am happy to try it again, but I found  this movie to be a snooze.

The characters are hilariously essentialist - each character is boiled down to one basic characteristic.

The set-up is simple, but once the kids are trapped in the house, the set pieces quickly start to feel repetitive.
